Beginnings of a Blog.
I've decided.. at this lovely hour at nearly 2 in the morning.. that this blog shall be a boring and uninspired view into my daily life. But.. I guess in order to do that.. anyone unfortunate enough to stumble upon it needs some background.. so, here it is.
I.. as was decided by my parents at birth.. am Bradley. I'm now 20 years old, having somehow managed to survive the first 19 years of my life. Native to Australia, I now live in Houston. Moving here specifically to get married, I have spent the last 2 years waiting patiently for the government to allow me permanent access to the country. Fortunately they decided I wasn't a threat to national security, and allowed me residency and a work permit. I have recently gained my first job in the 'real world' . More specifically, I have been employed at a music school to teach Piano to children and adults alike. Whilst I technically have only covered for other teachers at this point, this Tuesday I will be meeting my first permanent student and am expecting more and more students as the weeks go by.
Since having first been offered the job about 2 weeks ago, I've been getting more and more nervous of my abilities to teach impressionable young minds in the way of music, especially when it comes down to the drastically different teaching styles that, as my boss has told me, "society demands", and the way I was taught, and would have planned to teach. So I have much to learn in the way of teaching styles. Whilst it has been suggested that I should "teach the music so they can learn the technique".. I was taught that learning the technique was the gateway to playing the music. The school has a laid back attitude that promotes niceties and friendliness, which, I can appreciate. But it's a far cry from the "How am I supposed to teach you properly if you show up 3 minutes late to your lesson?" talk I used to get, and don't get me wrong... it was talk like that which kept me going on the hard days, say thankya to my old teacher.
Apart from that.. there hasn't been much on my mind.. have been busy trying to get my website up. So I'll finish this up, and probably be back on Tuesday after work, until then,
don't work too hard,
Brad.
