Ahh.. hee... yet another incredibly obvious and unusual thing about me is the way I talk, type, or just communicate in general. If you've ever wondered what the heck I'm saying.. well.. maybe this'll help ya out..
Something you may not know is.. the birth of the word Kimmish.. was because of what My Australian said when I first met him, he said "You're going to have your own language by the time you're 30!".. and ofcourse.. I respond, "YEAH!! That'd be awesome! I'd call it Kimmish!"
Kimmish Words
Yee- Can be either used sarcastically or to convey general excitement.. "YEE!!" or "yee.".. it veries. I'm complicated like that. Lol..
Woo Haa- Also used to convey excitement.. and can also be used sarcastically.. Ironic.. lol.
Whoda Thunk It- "Wow.. who would have ever thought that could happen?".. That's not really something of mine though.. my dad and I both say it.. it's probably just a country phrase.
Sho nuff- Affermative. (Sure enough).. Also probably just a country phrase.
Snarl- a sound made with the mouth, meaning displeasure
Phht- another mouth sound, meaning "so what?!" or "oh well!"
Riiiiiight- denotes scarcasm, and disbelief of what you said.
HOLY GEEZNESS!!- Total shock and suprize.
Sheeshness- A veriant of sheesh.. used to express mild annoyance.. surprise, or disgust.
eh- Pronounced e-h.. short E. Not "aye" like Canadians.. I am NOT Canadian. Eh can be used for lots of things.. sometimes its an emotion.. meaning "not good.. but not overly bad either".. just "eh." sometimes its the end of a sentance.. it's very versetile.. I like to get lots of milage out of my words : P
I'm sure there are many more words I use at any given time.. most of the time they just take a bit of common sense (that I realize isn't too common anymore.. which is a real shame actually) to figure out.. but if anyone asks me what I "just said" I normally ALWAYS answer em.
And if you haven't noticed already.. I'm very.. very Texan.. I talk with an accent.. I type with an accent.. and I use Texan terms and phrases. Carbonated Beverages no matter what brand or flavor are all called "cokes".. Someone comes over to your house.. you have an assortment of afformentioned Carbonated Beverages.. so you say, "Hey, ya wanna coke?" and they respond, "What kind?" so you say, "Weeelll.. regular Coke.. Dr. Pepper.. and Sprite.".. then they respond with their prefrence. I don't think thats confusing at all.. or odd.. I'm Texan.. thats how we do things. "Pop" and "Soda" just sound odd to me.. but "Pop" is worse.. "Soda" sounds more normal.. and I use it when talking to nonTexans when they don't understand the whole "Cokes" thing.
Another thing about the way we talk is the use of "real".. as in "I'm real tired." instead of saying "really" we say "real".. sometimes we say really too. I don't know why we do it this way.. but we do.
Houston accents aren't what I'd call real Texan accents... it's quite a shame.. but because lots of yankees (Americans from the Northern states. If you call me a "yank" I will hurt you.) have moved to Houston they've muttled the over-all accent.. making us sound more like yankees than most Texans do.. If you travel out of the city in any direction you'll notice (or atleast I do) that once you get over a certian threshold the people start sounding like real Texans again. It's an interesting concept really.. but I enjoy it.. it's like theres an invisible ring around Houston and once you cross the line everything is different..
My accent changes with who I talk to.. my mom finds this very annoying.. but I think it's kinda fun.. When I was very young I was mostly around my dad.. he's from East Texas.. where they talk like real Texans.. so he has a real Texas accent.. I think this is a reason that it feels more natural to me when I go to east Texas and start talking like them.. (it takes about.. hmm.. a week or so.) but then when I get back home my mom is all icked by the sound of my southern twang. My "Houston" accent doesn't feel good to me.. but I can't help it for some reason.. I do have more of a southern twang than most people in Houston that I know.. I think my friends think I talk weird.. sometimes they make fun of me.. lol.. but I love Texas and I embrace my Texan-ness.. I think alot of Houstonians are embarassed to be Texans.. so they try not to talk like they're Texan.. it's "uncivilzed".
When I talk to my fiancé long enough.. I do notice myself slowly addopting his Australian accent.. I really enjoy it actually.. and since I've talked to him for so long I've addpoted quite a few of the Aussie words he uses.. and I've intergrated them into my regular speech patterns.. I didn't do this conciously.. it just kinda... happened.. but I really like it.. and he says he doesn't mind.. lol..
I have lots of thoughts and ideas about accents.. for some reason they're just very interesting to me.. EVERYONE.. (yes.. even YOU!) has an accent.. you don't notice it because the people around you more or less have the same accent.. but as soon as you leave your area of living you'll notice that the other people "talk funny".. And they think you talk funny. It's all very interesting.
I have strange accent prefrences too.. I either really love an accent.. or really really really hate it. An example? I love.. absolutly adore.. and get all squishy inside when I hear my fiancé's accent.. but if I hear a yankee talk.. (especially one from Massacucets.) I feel like my ears are gonna start bleeding. Australian accents are my favorite of all the accents.. they were even before I met My Australian.. it's one of my very favorite things about him though..
I pretty much have a ranking in my mind of all the Accents.. well.. all the ones that envoke a strong feeling (either I love it or I hate it) atleast.
Hopefully I'm not offending anyone.. but.. this is my site.. and yall wouldn't be readin this far into this thang if ya didn't wanna know what I have to say.. This whole "what it is to be Kimmish" thing is making me reveal all kindsa things about how I think and act and why I do the things I do..
Mostly.. I'm just darn glad I can talk at all.. I couldn't make any kind of sound at all till I was four years old.. thats a long time of silence : P.. lol.. but I still think its funny that once I started talkin all mom mostly tried to do was get me to shut up..
This is all I have so far.. but I'll add more later.. Mental Kimmishness is next.. WOO!
