Ahh... two of the things in my life that have pretty much influenced the heck outa me.. Music.. and TV... TV not as much anymore.. but I grew up watching loads of TV.. and you'd think it'd make me stupid eh? Well.. that depends on what you watch : P.. We'll get to that... but first.. we shall talk about music.
Kimmish Music
I have very.. very.. broad musical tastes.. From Weird Al (heh..duh.) to Alan Jackson.. and onto Sir Mix-A-Lot.. to Reel Big Fish and Catch 22..
Everyone in my family likes different things.. which means that I grew up with a variety of music playing at me.. whether I liked it or not.. Matthew had his early '90s Grunge.. Mom had her (believe it or not) Metal and '90s rock.. plus some '80s pop thrown in there.. Dad had/has his Classic Rock and Country..
And I... well... had whatever the heck I wanted.. lol... basically anyway... The first musical tapes I ever got (I had other tapes before.. story book tapes.. *snickers*) Anyway.. for my 6th birthday (awww) I got..
Vanilla Ice- To The Extreme
and..
MC Hammer- Please Don't Hurt 'Em
*Snickers* Takes some of y'all back don't it? I used to take those tapes out to my garage and play them in my lil Playschool tape player.. and I'd dance... Yes.. I'd dance... Crazy.. maybe.. weird.. yes. But tis what I did.. What's scary is.. I still have those tapes.. AND.. that tape player.. and they all still work... Not bad for 11 year old technology eh?
A few years later.. a bigger musical milestone hit me when my Aunt Kathy and Uncle Joe (Plus Kevin and Kelly) came to visit from Florida.. I was hmm.. either 7 or 8.. I don't remember.. actually.. odd. Anyway.. they came and Uncle Joe brought a video of... hee... Weird Al Music videos >: ) And thus...... the obsession seed was planted.. It was watered with them giving Matthew a copy of "Off the Deep End" for some kind of holiday.. Heh.. I listened to it more than he did >: )
A bit after that something else happened... and according to most people.. including my own mother.. it was a very.. very bad thing.. Lol.. oh well.. We got this babysitter lady named Tracy but we had to go to her house to be "babysat".. and all they listened to.. was country music.. At first.. I hated it.. infact.. I despised it.. I thought it was the worst.. but then............. it grew on me... and became the only kind of music that I'd listen to.. right when Alan Jackson came out with my favorite song of his.. "Chattahoochee" I used to squeal with delight when the music video would come on CMT.. (Yes.. CMT... I.. used to watch.. CMT).. This country music thing lasted from 1992 till.. Gee.. had to be around 1996..
Then.. since I take after my dad so incredibly much.. I also grew up with lots of classic rock.. Classic rock has always been a constant in my music listening.. '50s, '60s,' and '70s.. From Elvis (Yes.. I absolutely LOVE Elvis.. but only young Elvis.. when he actually rocked. No Vegas style fat jump suit Elvis for me) to Aerosmith.. (Kimmish Note: Aerosmith USED to be one of my favorite classic rock bands.. but due to their atrocious performance at the 2001 Superbowl.. they have completely lost my respect. I do not listen to them anymore.. and do not like them.. nor support them) and ZZTop..
Ahh.. hee.. if anything this part is going to be something you recognize most.. in 1999 Weird Al's newest album came out.... thus... I became completely obsessed and had full and total Weird Al immersion.. And let me tell you... it drove my mother.. totally insane. *giggles* and this lasted for a very.. very long time.. Al was in my CD players.. on my computer.. on my TV.. and defiantly in my mind.. constantly. He was my screen names, my desktop theme, my website.. And when I heard he was coming to Houston for a concert.. Wooooo buddy.. heheh... it got worse >: ) Durring 1999 and 2000 I must have bought.. geez... over 250 dollars worth of Weird Al paraphanalia.. That's alot for me.. for anything.. lol.. I'm not one to pay for music.. and paying that much for music and music related stuff is HUGE.. And worth every cent >: ).. I'm still obsessed with Al.. just not quite as much.. I do listen to other things.. and watch other things on TV.. but I still listen to lots of Al.. hee.. he's just that good >: )
March of 2000 I met a guy that was going to affect my musical tastes greatly.. He's sense been dubbed my "musical mentor".. Jeremy.. AKA Saggybuttox to anyone who knows me or him online.. He welcomed me to the wonderful angry world of Punk music.. and especially.. hee.. Ska >: ) He introduced me to NOFX.. Catch 22.. Reel Big Fish.. Me First and the Gimme Gimmies.. and almost any other punk and ska music that I have.. and in 2001 I went to my first punk concert.. and even though the situation sucked.. It was Warped Tour... and if anyone asks me to go to an all day outdoor afair in July ever again.. I'm gonna smack em upside the head.. really hard.. with a skillet. Not just any ole skillet neither... a heavy skillet..
Anyway.. I guess thats about it for that kinda thing.. Nothing has really changed recently.. I listen to a mix of all of that stuff.. plus some Classical.. and.. um.... whatever the heck I feel like.. Even disco >: ) lol.. I basically like a lil of everything.. it's far easier to list what I DON'T like.. Hey.. let's just do that.. yeah.. hee..
Music I Don't Like
Greenday (HATE THEM! You hear me? I HATE THEM)
Nirvana (Sorry.. after years and years of having their music drilled into my head by way of my brother playing them 24/7/365.. I just.. can't stand em.. and yet I know every lyric to their dang songs : /)
Hanson (No explanation neccesary)
Brittany Spears (Ditto.)
Boy Bands. (Ditto ditto.)
Marilyn Manson (Ick. Scary. Repulsive. Must I go on?)
ICP (I have a clown phobia.. nuff said.)
Dixie Chicks (They annoy me greatly.)
Metallica (I used to like them.. but since the Napster thing they clearly don't care about their fans.. and are only in it for the money. Thus.. they can go sit on a pointy stick)
The Beetles (Yes.. they're classic.. yes they're insanely popular.. but alas I still don't like them.. You can't make me like them either.. I just won't.. so ner.)
Ricky Martin (Ewwwww)
And that's it... till I can think of more anyway.. lol..
Kimmish Television
Ahh.. hehee... Television has also played a big role in my life.. I grew up with it... since my parents are divorced, I live with my mom.. and she works all the time.. It's always been that way.. TV was always there.. and TV can really screw you up.. or actually be a positive thing.. depending on what you chose to watch..
When I was a kid I'd come home from school and plop down infront of our TV that we have in the living room.. I'd sit on the carpet and munch on chips and milk... and watch my afternoon TV shows..
I mostly picked intelligent things to watch.. like home improvement shows that they'd show on daytime Discovery.. or Bill Nye the Science guy.. I loooved Bill Nye.. he was soo awesome.. Beakman's World was another favorite.. So was Ghostwriter.. and Saved By The Bell..
I also grew up on MTV... not always a good thing.. but mostly it just showed me what NOT to do.. lol.. like for example.. Beavis and Butthead taught me NOT to put a poodle through the wash.. or get all hyped up on chocolate and caffine.. (CORNHOLIOIOIOIOO!!) The main reason I watched so much MTV (It was actually kinda good in 1993) was because I shared a room with my brother pretty much till I was 13.. and he's a remote hog.. and when we weren't in our room.. we were in the livingroom.. where he also controled the TV.. so.. there ya go)
I loooooved... err... loooove.. sitcoms.. but not just any sitcoms.. the sitcoms of today don't really do anything for me.. I have a strong like for the early 90's sitcoms though.. like Full House, Home Improvement, Family Matters.. man.. I grew up with the kids on those shows.. lol..
I don't watch nearly as much TV now days as I did back then.. the only time I do now really is when I'm trying to go to sleep.. buuut.. I still have some shows I actually make a point to watch.. one.. being the O'Reilly Factor on the Fox News Channel.. another.. is called Good Eats.. on the Food Network.. and hmm.. I guess thats about it really.. I used to make a point to watch Whose Line is it Anyway.. but now I don't remember when it's on.. and it must be on when I watch something else.. (Prolly O'Reilly).. Ooohh.. and one other favorite show... The Screensavers on TechTv.. hee.. nerdy show >: )
