Daddy To The Rescue..

Howdie..

Yes.. I have one of those supportive type fathers who actually care to help once in a while.. He came by this morning to take me to my favorite yarn store. (It's a bit too far for Brad to drive as a new driver. Houston traffic is merciless.) So he bought me my yarn that I needed to finish my sleeve.. and one more ball for good measure so he was 100% sure we wouldn't have to go back.. The best part? Even though I originally bought that yarn online from a website who is a few states away.. the local store even had the right lot number of my yarn! Go figure! I was definitely pleased.

I looked at the yarn store for some pins, and to my suprise they didn't have ANY. So that brought about a conversation between me, dad, and a really nice woman who was lounging in the "knitting livingroom" they have at the store..

Me: They don't have any stick pins here.
Dad: What are stick pins?
Me: You know.. little metal things that are pointy that you poke things with.. you know.. pins..
Dad: Oh! Straight pins!
Me: They're called stick pins too..
Dad: They are not.... *turns to woman* Are they?
Woman: Yes actually, and for knitters they have ones with flat tops on them and some have glass heads.. Those are the best ones.. but my friend she uses those T shaped ones that they use for dissecting frogs.
Me: Yeah! T pins! I've seen those used..

So after all that.. I told him that I knew that a fabric store sold T pins and he said that we could go to one that was on the way home.. so we did.. and he bought me 3 boxes of shiny new strong T pins.

So when I got home I took my one blocked front off of the towels and picked up the stitches along the edge and knitted the zipper band. I was really impressed with myself because I had never picked up stitches before and I wasn't quite sure how to go about it.. but I got this bright idea that I could pick up stitches 6 at a time with a crochet hook and then transfer them to my long circ needle as I went along, rather than fighting with stitches not wanting to pull through the tiny holes with the knitting needles. This worked like a charm! I almost cant wait to do my next band on my other front!

Speaking of my other front.. it is on the blocking towel along with my back.. I very much love my new T pins.. they were MUCH better than even the best of my brother's pins.

Gotta love those TPins..

After I blocked those pieces I got down to business on the unfinished sleeve. I finished the last 10 rows.. So maybe later I can block the sleeves... Although I'm not all that sure how much blocking they actually need. I noticed that my one blocked front and the unblocked sleeve didn't actually match up anymore so maybe when I do the sleeves they'll match up again. I hope so anyway! If not I'll undo some knitting and fix it.. hopefully. I'm hoping for the blocking though.

Brad and I went to Wal*Mart today and I got to buy a new tomato pin cushion. I think it's kinda cute, but very very normal which is kindof unfortunate, but here it is in all it's stabbed glory:

Course before I blocked the pieces that lil tomato was crammed full of pins.. I even had trouble finding a spot for the last few.

All in all it's been a pretty good day. I got alot of stuff to do to prepare for a family trip we're leaving on tomarrow morning. It's our annual family campout weekend... I'm probably gonna start a smallish project that I can take with me on the car ride. I'm thinking maybe VooDoo Wrist Warmers in some extra yarn from the body of my sweater. Maybe maybe.. I don't know.. We shall see!

lol @ the pin convo. Your dad is a sweetie to help you out! All the good yarn stores here are about a 30 min drive away, more in traffic. So I haven't been to any yet. But my best friend is moving to Alexandria, which is where Knit Happens is. So I will make it there someday!

Good luck on the finishing, it looks great so far. :)
