Seeing Stripes.

Howdie..

Yes.. it is true.. I did decide to add stripes to my sleeve.. I find this as a sort of "yarn running outage" insurance. I think it'll end up lookin nice too.. and if not.. well there is ripping isn't there.

Is there a picture? You bet:

So even more deviating from the pattern.. but they're not huge deviations or anything.. and hopefully they'll end up looking better on me than it would had I followed the instructions to the letter. I started with 64 sts, worked in k2p2 until the very center because I had to change the middle 2 into k2p1 so that the k2s would be the same on both ends of the rows.. Boy doesn't THAT sound confusing.. but what I end up with is a sortof athletic looking stripe down the entire sleeve in the middle that is very subtle. Even though it wasn't intended.. I like it. Then after 60 rows I changed to my main color, worked 2 rows, changed back to sleeve color for 2 rows, then back to MC for 6 rows.. then back to sleeve color again... I like the way the stripes look, but yesterday I had a mental breakdown about what if they land in the wrong spot on my arm (I'm aiming for elbow level.) and I had wished I put them closer to my wrist.. but in the end I think it'll work out ok.

I'm also doing the back in the "ribbed all over" style but I'm doing the flat pannels in the front.. Yet another deviation (sortof. I mean.. there are options for both, but usually you either do both flat, or both ribbed.) I think the extra ribbing will make it fit me better, but I wanted the flat look on the front. Fit is extremely important to me because, as I have mentioned here before, I am a small Kim.

Speaking of sizes.. isn't that a great thing about knitting? Being able to make clothes that fit you? I really dig that aspect because being such a small Kim, I have been the victim of ill fitting, over sized, really.. bad, clothing. I wish I could even knit pants.. because I would so that I wouldn't have crotches down to my knees or have to deal with kid's pants that are wide enough, but too short. Or long enough, but the butt is too big because they're made for lil fat girls. (Which sounds slightly amusing when I say it like that.. he he.) Anyway.. what I'm getting at is that personalizing the look and Fit! of a garment is sooo.. great.

Yes.. yes it is.

Oh.. and some good news is that I'm probably taking my government exam tomarrow which means there is more time for... knitting! Yay! So maybe I'll get atleast one sleeve done.. that would be fantastical for sure. I want to see how they come out at the shoulder area.. (They're knit from the wrist up, something which the non-knitters of the house don't really seem to get when I show them "my sleeve" which oddly looks like "my weird lil scarf." Lol.)

I may end up having to buy another ball of Dusk before it's all over.. (Shh.. don't tell Brad.) but I'm going to buy it (if I have to) from the LYS so that I won't have to pay shipping. I'm going to try my best not to need one though.. but I really want my collar to be the full collar version, and I want it to be solid Dusk.. I may end up having to compromise with stripes, but I won't compromise on the collar type.

This pattern has so many options.. I tell ya.

Well this might just be enough knitterly rambling from me for now.. I can't really think of much else to say.. Well I could.. but I'm not gonna.. so ner.

You're going so fast on this sweater, wow! I lovelovelove the stripes. Not only are they good for yarn conservation, they look great too.

Rowan yarns are some of my very favorites. :) Can't wait to see your finished sweater!
