Moving Right Along..

Howdie..

I've been going on my new sleeves for a couple days now.. I think they're going pretty well so far.. I'm knitting them in the round using the Magic Loop Method.. (I LOOVE that method by the way.)

So all is going well.. and I'm still keeping my eyes pealed for a tanktop/cami I can knit myself with a reasonably cheap amount of money.. I've been eyeing Knit Picks for cheap yarns.. I've heard great things about them.

I'll probably post a sleeve picture once I get through the stripes.. (The stripes create interest. Lol.)

Operation Deconstruction...

...Complete.

Howdie..

Yes it's true.. I've completed the deconstruction process of my sleeve remake. I'm calling them Sleeves v2.0. Brad was calling me crazy last night when I started ripping everything apart.. but I did so gently and it went amazingly well.. Better than I thought actually. It's nice to know that I can infact dismantle parts of a project while leaving the parts I want saved in tact.

I really think it'll be much better this time around... I've decided to knit the sleeves in the round up till the decreases.. this will take out the sleeve seam (Which was bugging the inside of my wee lil elbow like CRAZY) and hopefully make for a smoother look. I'll also be lengthining them an inch and a half (Without having to attach "cuffs" again).. and I've decided to keep the stripes.

This is what you get when you're a perfectionist with nothing new to move on and knit. It's not so bad.. really!

Zip Zippieness.. It's Zipperiffic!

Howdie..

Yes.. it's finnally complete.. I bit the bullet and installed my zipper. It really wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.. I just had to take my time. I did end up using the sewing machine and I'm really glad I did.. When I was basting the zipper I realized just how crappy I am at sewing.. so the sewing machine did way better than I ever could have.. I learned some new things too.. like that our sewing machine has a zipper foot.. (I even learned how to change the feet on the sewing machine!) so I think it was all for the best..

All Zipped Up!

The stitching isn't the best, but I think it's pretty darn good.

So I've been thinking.. I'd really like to start something new.. but I don't think we'll have the money any time soon.. So I think I'm going to actually redo the sleeves on this thing.. I'm just not happy with them.. and I think I'll be redoing them in the round until the decreases.. so that I don't have to seam the sleeves. I don't like the feel of the seam down my arm.. it's too bulky and just not very nice. So that's probably what I'll so... I also think I'm going to try knitting socks very soon.. I have a bit of yarn left over that I could make some socks with.

If I had my way.. I'd make myself a tanktop.. I've been eyeing the Knitty Xback and I asked Yarnmarket.com for a sample of some different colors of ribbon yarn that they sell so I can see what they're like. The yarn isn't horribly expensive so I might get to make it sooner than later. Here's hoping anyway.

A Game of Pick-Up-Sticks?

Howdie..

Well, today is finally the day.. The day I have dubbed... ZIPPER DAY!!.... Doesn't that kinda sound ominous? (Well.. I think it does...) I have to admit I'm a tidbit intimidated by the whole zipper process.. but I was intimidated about the sweater in the first place.. and that seems to have turned out ok.. so.. We'll see what happens.

Last night Brad got home from work and we had to go to the library. (We had a book overdue, shame on us.) So I asked him if we could go to the fabric store too since we were already heading out.. and he reluctantly said yes. Woo.

So we went to Hancock Fabrics to look for zippers... They had quite a few.. but they didn't have EXACTLY what I wanted... They had another zipper that I liked the style and feel of much better than the one I ended up with.. but the one I did buy's color was almost too good to pass up. (And this is why I bought it.) Hopefully it'll work out ok.. It's actually a YKK zipper, which I was surprised to have found. I also bought matching thread.. and.... (get ready for it...) my first set of........ DPNS!

So I started trying them out last night.... I'm not so sure that I like the ones I bought.. I may end up returning them.. (They're the LionBrand plastic type.) The feel of the plastic isn't very nice.. and they have a weird rattling sound to them. As for actually knitting with them.. at first it was pretty slow going.. but by the time I wanted to quit last night I seemed to be getting the hang of it more..

And is it just me or does it really look like a weird game of Pick-Up-Sticks?

That yarn by the way is the same yarn I used for the body of my sweater.. and you can see there that the zipper is QUITE close to the color.. Neat huh?

If I buy some other kind of DPNs I don't know what they'll be.. I really don't like bamboo.. (Really hate it actually.) and I don't think I'd like metal ones either... Personally I wish the Denise people would make a line of DPNs out of their magical feeling needle plastic type stuff.

So stay tuned for tails of either zipper triumph.. or.. zipper woes.

Hitchin A Ride..

Howdie..

Yes, we just finnally watched Hitchhiker's Guide.. I thought it was utterly fantastic when the improbability drive turned them all into knitted objects.. and ofcourse the barfing of the yarn was hillarious. I thought that was just great : )

...In other news.. still no zipper yet.

I am in the process of finalizing the plans for my yarn keepin box.. I think it'll be really great.. Not sure how long I'll have to wait to have it though.

That's all for now... If ya haven't seen the movie yet.. GO see it!

In Search Of... The Perfect Zipper.

Howdie..

So we were out driving around and we happened to pass a Hobby Lobby store.. so I thought.. hey.. Hobby Lobby has fabric.. and where there is fabric.. there must be zippers! So we went there.. and we looked.. and they had one zipper I was remotely excited about.. until I pulled it out of its lil sleeve and found that it was not a separating zipper. Fooey. What good is a cardi that doesn't separate? No good I say. (Mostly because a cardi that doesn't separate would be called a pullover.. wouldn't it?)

Knowing this zipper quest could be long and tedious.. I knitted my self the tiniest swatch in the world to keep in my purse for just such random zipper occassions. I'm hoping this strategy will pay off.

Beyond that.. not much knitting news.. Well I guess I do have one quasi-interesting tidbit. I've been asked to run/design a family friend's business website.. so concidering his business (He is a master carpenter.) and that he is really a very nice man, I thought it best that we barter. So.. I give him my website services.. and he.. is going to make me my very own custom cedar lined yarn keepin chest. Complete with inner tray and drawer underneith! How cool is THAT? I can't wait to get it I tell ya.. and it'll be unfinished (I think) so I'll be able to paint it any lil shade of blue my heart desires.. (An intelligent shade of blue, to be sure.)

I'm quite excited about the prospects.. anyhow.

Still Zipless..

Howdie..

Yes it's true.. I haven't gotten a zipper yet.. we haven't even been anywhere to look at any besides Wal*mart.. They didn't have the right color... fooey.

I did work on my sweater a little bit a couple nights ago.. I may end up ripping it back out though. I was bothered by the slightly too short sleeves so I decided to see what it would be like if I picked up the stitches at the end of the sleeves and knitted another inch in pattern.. Brad says it looks too "renaissance like" but I'm not so sure.. I wish it didn't have a crease from where I picked up the stitches that's for sure.. but I don't know if I'd rather deal with the short sleeves the way they were.. or deal with the crease. I'm feeling pretty wishywashy about the whole thing.. (It's PMS time.. the time where I don't trust myself with any decisions.)

I might end up posting a picture of the sleeves in question on the Ribby KAL to see what the girls think.. That sounds like a pretty good idea..

I think the very best solution though would be to rip the sleeves out and knit them again an inch longer... Crazy you say?! YES! But it would be the best way.. Time consuming and annoying for sure.. but if you're going to do something you should do it right...... or something like that anyway. I really don't want to do that... I don't even need to do that.. but I may just end up doing it one day... I do have months and months till it gets cold enough here in Texas to even wear the silly thing.. I'd have to figure out how to detatch the sleeves... that'd be kinda tough.. ando ofcourse the collar would be gone... and I'd have to undo the seam on each sleeve.... Arggg.. lots of work.. Is the picking up shortcut really so bad? I don't know.

Today on the local news they did a story about knitting.. I thought it was neat.. and I'm pretty sure they showed my favorite knitting store.. They were mostly talking about men knitting.. but it was the basic "knitting is getting more and more popular" story.. I think it's nice that it is.. that means more and more yarns and books and tools that'll pop up. When I started knitting again I had NO idea that it was popular at all.. but as I got more and more into it, that was pretty obvious..

Man my head hurts...

**Edit-
I just took some pictures of the sleeves in question here they be:

And here are the sleeves close up, where I did my little picking up trick..
