Sockish Victory!
They're done! Wanna see?

I think they're pretty darn good for my first socks... and the best part is.. I have an entire ball of yarn left.. so I can make.. MORE socks! WOO! (A great thing about having tiny feet... a whole pair of socks outa one ball of yarn.)
Changes I'd make: I'd do 1x1 ribbing on the cuff, and I'd make the heel flap a 1/2" longer..
I think I'll be knitting more socks in the near future : )

Sock it To Me..
Well.. over the weekend we spent at my dads.. I did it... I finished my first sock... It's quite cute.. and actually fits me.. (Well except one part.. but.. well.. we'll get to that later..

I'm quite proud of myself... but I still think that turning the heel was the best part... I love it.. I wish I could just make heels all day long.. lol.
So the one downside is that the top of the cuff seems to stretch out way too far when I put it on my foot.. so it ends up being like 1/2 an inch too big... kindof a bummer.. but I've been talking to the ladies over at
KR about it and I should be well prepared for my next pair of socks.. (Which, if the yarn holds out.. might be VERY soon.)
I'm nearly done with sock number two... and I've discovered the joy of knitting at work.. (I recently got hired on as a fill-in receptionist..) Getting paid to knit is the best I think.. and my boss saw me knitting and he said "Are you making me socks?!" and I said "No.. I'm making me socks.. but if I'm good enough at it I *could* make you socks".. He thought that was pretty funny.. then he looked at my finished sock and said it looked good.. What a great boss huh?
News on the Box front.. I've completed the painting.. and I'm concidering moving the box out of the kitchen tomarrow... I'm concerned though because the paint is ever so slightly tacky.. and this worries me because I put the last coat on it early Friday.. and it is now Wednesday... The can did say that it takes 7 days to become washable.. but I'm not sure the tackyness will go away.. I hope it'll be ok...
It didn't come out solid dark blue.. but more of a slightly streaky dark blue/royal blue mix... I decided I really like the look though so I'm keeping it.. (If I did more coats I'm confident that it would end up solid dark blue.. but after 3 I decided to give up. lol.)
If the tackyness isn't gone by next week I think I'll ask the Home Depot paint people what the deal is.. cause that's just not good. I don't want my box to stick shut or anything crazy like that.
So.. Possibly box pictures tomarrow... we shall see... But for now.. I'm a tired Kim.

What A Heel!
I feel so accomplished.. who knew that turning the heel of a sock could be so gratifying? It's such a cute little heel.. see?

I've been knitting on my sock durring the time I've had to wait between painting my box... Knitting makes waitin for paint to dry fun times.. heh..
I'm quite impressed with my heel (I've never done short rows before..).. I tried it on so far and it fits just right.. I'm so pleased.
The box needs one more coat.. so maybe I'll have finished pictures of it tomarrow night... woo!

Just Look at the Mess I've Made!

I can't seem to do anything without making a huge mess of the room I happen to be in.. lol.
So my box is totally primed right now.. I decided to give up at about 9PM and save the actual painting for tomarrow.. Between going to Sears Hardware this morning to get tack-cloth and going to Home Depot AGAIN in the afternoon.. and then spending all evening prepping and priming my box.. I am one lil pooped Kim.
You wanna hear something crazy? Home Depot doesn't sell tack-cloth anymore.. What the heck is with that? The paint people didn't understand it either but they told me to go to an auto-parts store to get some.. But my dad gave me the idea to go to Sears Hardware instead cause it's closer (And he wanted me to buy him more tools.. which I didn't. lol.) So we went to Sears and they did infact have tack-cloth.. and it was on sale for half off! I spent a grand total of 54ยข!
Hopefully by tomarrow I'll have a finished box to show the world.. (and to store my yarn in.. That'd be nice. lol.)
Now maybe I can work on my sock some..
Pilgrimage Home Depot..
Grumperina would be proud.. I made a knitterly pilgrimage to Home Depot.. And it was a successful trip to be sure..

I got blue-tinted primer.. and dark blue paint.. I think it's quite nifty and it didn't cost an arm and a leg either.. $21.05 (including tax) And the paint color is called "Sailboat".. I don't really know who thinks up pain color names.. but they sure are odd. I was also considering a color called "Jazz Blue" but I dunno.. I decided to go for more of a contrast to the wall color I have in my livingroom.. (A royal blue.. unfortunatly I don't remember the name of the color. lol.)
So today I hope to start priming.. I've decided that the kitchen is the perfect space to do such things.. and I've nearly even decided on the method I shall go with.. I think I'm going to start out with the box upside down so I can prime the feet and bottom.. then when that dries I'll put it right side up so I can do the rest.. That should work out.. hopefully. lol. The primer is BRIGHT blue.. I think it'll be funny..
In other news.. I cast on my first sock last night.. I think I'm really getting the hang of DPNs.. they're especially easier because I got the Bryspuns.. I think they have just the right amount of resistance. We took the Lionbrand DPNs back last night.. I just couldn't stand them.. and the wax-paper idea didn't even help.

After I swatched long enough to get gauge (Holy moly! That took forever!) I ended up casting on 48 stitches.. The gauge I got was 30sts to 4 inches.. Pretty darn tiny. But I guess that is the way of sock yarn.. And this yarn is SOOOO springy! I'm still trying to get used to it.
I don't know why I feel all over the place.. but I think I've said everything I wanted to say.. Stay tuned for pictures of my yarn box painting progress : )

Don'tcha Just Love The Mail Man?
*Ding dong ding dong!* Gee.. I wonder what's at the door?
Oh look! A package:

And it has my name on it!
Let's see what's inside..

Woo hoo! Now I have real sho-nuff sock yarn.. And it isn't wool! Woo! And those are Bryspun DPNs (US 4).
Now I feel prepared to take on socks.. And I must say.. I love the color.. and I definitely loved my first
Elann experience : )
I love a good package in the morning..

Woo Hoo! Fufillment!
Howdie...
I mentioned it in a post a while back.. and it's finnally here! And I must say.. it is.. addorable!

My Yarnbox of Cuteness is finnally here. (That's all I kept thinking/saying when it got here.. how cute it is.. it just is so cute!
And to get into the functionality of the whole thing..

It has two addorable little drawers sized just right for patterns.. With cedar in the bottom. At the moment I'll probably do patterns/pattern books in one.. and yarn catalogs in the other.. We actually bought thoes pulls at
Target the other day.. they have a small indention on the bottom side for your finger to fit in.. It was the most comfy pull they had, and I like how they look.. I was wondering if they'd fit with the box, but I think they do!

This is the view when I opened it.. (thoes lil bits of something are the packages the drawer pulls came in.)

And this is the tray that lifts out.. I think it'll be handy for keeping some yarns at the top.. Special yarns... Ooo.

This is the view down into the box when the tray is out.. I love that he put cedar in all of the parts.. My yarn is going to smell so nice!

And this is so you can tell the size of the whole thing.. I based it on the box I already have my yarn stored in.. It's a cheap plastic box from Ikea.. it's served it's duty.. but this new box is tons better!
So now I get to decide what color finish I want to put on it.. I'd really like to stain it.. but I'm not brave enough I don't think.. I'm probably gonna paint it.. because atleast that's reversable down the road..
I love this box so much! It is the cuteness!
Oh.. and if you want one.. you should go to
FurnitureByCoy.com and strike up a deal : )

Kim... the sock knitter?
After being a bit disgusted with my attempt at Honeymoon.. I've been strongly considering trying the whole sock thing.. Everyone talks about socks.. sock this.. my sock that.. I wanna know what it's all about.
But before I dive right in I have to somehow make my only set of DPNs into something I'd be able to stand knitting with.. They're LionBrand plastic and BOY do they feel like plastic! I've heard that rubbing them with wax or something is supposed to help.. so I might try that.
I don't have any sock yarn.. but I'm gonna use some left over Rowan All Seasons Cotton that I have.. (Before you sock knitters throw a fit.. these are just trial socks.. these aren't socks I intend to wear oftin.. or maybe even at all.) I got some pretty detailed instructions off DIY so I figure I'm prepared enough.. maybe.. lol.
This is just something I've been thinking about.. Socks Socks Socks... Hmm.

No sir, I don't like it.
Howdie..
So I'm pretty much done with my Honeymoon Cami (Thanks to Christy for digging me out of my hole) and I have to say.. I'm not pleased.
It looks pretty good when it's laying flat on something:

But when I wear it... it just doesn't look right.. I didn't do the stripes soon enough in the knitting.. and my bra likes to play peakaboo way too much for me to feel comfortable (Note the arrow.)

I was wearing a blue bra so it isn't so noticeable.. but in person you can definitely see it and I don't like it.. So I don't know if I'm gonna take it apart and try again with the neck line.. or if I'm gonna frog the whole thing and save the yarn for a
Tivoli when she's done writing the pattern.. (I had secret conversation today with her about a 28" bust size.. I even helped her with some special measurements so hopefully she'll get it done soonish!)
So decisions decisions.. I just don't know.. but I ain't pleased so somethings gonna change.. I'm not knitting so things can fit me badly.. I can buy quazi-fitting clothes anywhere. (And I do!) But when I knit something I want it to fit me right or not at all.
So hmph. I'm willing to take any suggestions yall can throw my way.. I'll probably stew over this for a while.
