My Little Bundle Of Joy..

In the wee hours of the morning (last night) I finished my Pod sock.. and it was a good thing too.. because at around 10:30 this morning the FedEx-Man-Stork brought me my little bundle of joy...

It turns out it fits Mr. Pod perfectly.. but I don't really have a need for it anymore because my loving Brad actually did take me to buy the case I wanted so there wasn't any "lag" at all really.. And wouldn't you know it.. now they're sticking their own temporary case things in with the Ipods now.. so I really didn't need to knit the sock at all.. I'm still glad I did because probably if I didn't the case wouldn't have been there.. lol.

Here's Mr. Pod.. he sure is a cutey!!

I'll really enjoy knitting while listening to Mr. Pod.. especially when Brad is playing his computer games..

Can you believe he got here all the way from China in a day and a half? It's totally mind blowing!

If you want to knit your own sock for an Ipod Nano here's what I did:

Meterials: Elann's Sock it To Me! Esprit (Less than one ball.. WAY less. lol. This lil thing took hardly no yarn at all!) or similar sock yarn
Set of DPNs.. I used size 4.

Gauge: 30sts to 4in

I cast on 26 sts and spread them among for of my DPNs.. then join the round and knit in K1P1 rib until the length reaches 3 and 3/4ths of an inch. Bind off using the 3 needle bind off. And you now have an Ipod Nano sock!

Course all that is super simple and could be modified extensively.. different ribbing patterns.. different colors or striped yarn.. There are a ton of possibilities as this is such a tiny project. The Esprit yarn is great for this since it is so SPRINGY and it hugs the Ipod nicely without getting any holes.

I think I may reknit mine though using 24 sts so I can do two by two rib after a little bit of k1p1.. I think it might look cuter that way.. Plus I'm kinda bored.. lol.

...I should probably cast on Aunt Karen's scarf instead.... Ugh.. I dread working with LB Homespun again.. what a bummer : /

Phase Two: Complete.

Yep.. it's done. I even cut the yarn and wove in the ends... so now it's onto the adventure of labels.. that should be fun!

Then after that is done I'll be casting on for my pod-sock.. Mr. Pod has an estimated delivery of January 3rd.. but I'm hoping it'll be sooner than that! Probably not though since that's the first Monday.. what a bummer.

Oh well.. I can still obsessively check the FedEx tracking page until it gets here ; ) I was shocked to see that Mr. Pod is coming to me all the way from CHINA! I know it makes sense when you think about it.. but I thought Apple would have a warehouse here in the US.. silly me.

On to the Label adventure! Well.. first I'll eat lunch.. ; ) Then labels!

Plotting Again...

Phase 2 is coming along swimmingly.. I hope I get it done before Melanie calls me to hang out.. but we shall see.

All that is fine and good but I'm already thinking of something else..

I'm entirely excited and obsessed with what I purchased for myself with my Christmas money.. After resisting the urge and trying to convince myself how stupid they were.. I ordered myself an Ipod.. Yep.. I've gone and done it... I ordered it.. and it shipped today.

I already have a case picked out that I'll be buying.. but Brad says I can't get it until Mr. Pod gets here.. I'm afraid of the "lag" between the box getting here and getting to the store to purchase the case as I've heard of plenty of people scratching their new Ipods within the first two days of having it..

So the plot... to knit myself an Ipod sock for my "Impossibly Small" Nano. I have some sock yarn left from my dabbling in sock knitting.. I may sacrafice a sock that I was knitting myself.. but honestly I wasn't so thrilled with them anyway.

So as soon as Phase 2 is finished I'll be casting on my Ipod sock.. which shouldn't take more than a few hours at the most.. I mean.. the thing is SMALL. But I think this sock thing will be a great temporary solution.. My only hope is that it doesn't let Brad think that I don't need a case anymore.. because I do.. I won't be able to USE the Ipod in the sock.. so there ya go.

Should be a fun and quick knit though.. and it'll be the first thing I've knit for myself since I embarked on Aunt Faye's gift.. Man.. it's been a long time... October.. Holy moly.

I hope you girls aren't too bored with me.. It's really hard to keep blogging while you're working on a secret gift.. but it'll be over soon... I hope.. lol. One thing I will tell yall is that I have full intentions (and supplies) to make lables like Grumperina does for her gifts.. I think that'll be cute.. and it'll let me put the care instructions on it.. And I'll get to be a different kind of creative.. which is always nice : )

I'll make sure to update yall when I finish Phase 2 and when I cast on for my Pod-Sock.. it'll be fun.. I swear!

Phase One: Complete.

Yes.. it's true.. Phase one of the Melanie Mystery Gift Project (MMGP) is complete. I haven't cut the yarn yet.. I'm not ready to let it go.

But on to Phase Two.. which is also a mystery.. but all will be revealed in time..

..And that's all I'm at liberty to say.

Oh.. and something else... Hehe.. I got a present... and it's not knitting related.. but it'll probably take up some of my free time..

Merry Christmas to me! I haven't even opened it yet because I wanted to make sure I'd finish my paper today for my class.. but soon.. I'll be rippin the plastic off that bad boy..

Oh.. and knitting.. let's not forget the Christmas knitting..

I hope I don't get IT.

It's Invading My Thoughts..

Have you ever been just sitting around.. minding your own business.. and then.. BANG! It hits you again..

..I.. have got.. to make.. the Travelling Cables Cardigan..

I've got it bad for this pattern.. I've been plotting.. and scheming.. and thinking of evil ways to make it happen..

I've even strongly concidered frogging Ribby2 in order to steal the yarn and make the TCC.. But when I crunched the numbers on that.. well... I'd need 13 balls of the yarn... but I only have 12.

What a bummer that is.

So I'm not going to get out of this without spending a significant amount of money.. Thankfully my grandparents are fairly dependable for giving out good Christmas cash.. So they might save me.

I need a good aran weight something that isn't wool... I'm fairly certian that I can't knit with wool.. Allthough dad and I are plotting about that too.. He wants wool socks.. and I want to knit him socks.. and I think I remember something about a lotion that works like liquid gloves or something and I thought that might protect my hands from the irritation I feel when I knit with wool.

The lotion wouldn't work for something for me.. unless they also make a bodywash.. lol.

At any rate.. There was this yarn on Ebay that is part Angora that I'm concidering.. it's aran weight and the color is teal looking.. I hope it's teal and not green.. but the seller never responded to my question about that.

I emailed my LYS about the pattern and they said they would order it next time they order from Karabella.. This way I don't have to pay shipping and I'm not tempted to knit it before I'm done with my Christmas knitting..

Anyway.. I just wanted to get all my plotting down and out of my head.. Maybe it'll stop keeping me awake at night or keeping me from doing my school work.. (HA!)

Progress on Melanie's scarf is going great.. I should be done with it very soon.. Then I start Aunt Karen's scarf.. Woo fun!

A Personal Update..

Well.. Not much public knitting has gone on in the past few days.. I'm still working on the MMGP and it's coming along well.. I do realize that Christmas is 23 days away but I really don't think I'll see Melanie ON Christmas.. probably a week after or so.. that's usually how it goes anyway.. so I'm not all that worried.

I've been working and doing school and doing family things lately.. My mom has been off work for two weeks.. which is highly unusual so we end up going out and doing things.. Course school/work is the main reason that I'm not done with the MMGP yet..

I (stupidly?) added another gift project to my list today.. You see.. My brother and his wife are having a baby.. it's due in February.. I've been very leary of knitting for this baby because of the drama surrounding them and their relationship.. I wasn't sure if a knitted gift from me would be well recieved or not.. but today I asked her about it and she seemed to be ok with it.. Dad said he would buy the yarn.. so... I guess I need to start thinking about what I'll make. She said her mom is already making her a blanket.. so that's out... I want mine to be different and identifyable as something I made.. so... I still need to think about it all.

On a positive blogging note.. my camera thingie arrived and it WORKS.. so when I'm working on something I can show publically it will be no problem getting the pictures from the camera into my new laptop... I tell you.. blogging will be MUCH easier. Hooooly moly. Oh.. and I highly recommend this camera thingie.. I can't tell you how many times I've forgotten to unplug the USB cord from my camera.. which results in a totally drained battery.. this is pretty annoying. But with the camera thingie.. no battery is used.. so it's tons easier.

I can't wait till I'm all done with these gifts so I can start knitting for me again.. I'm still dreaming about the Travelling Cables Cardigan... and trying to imagine where I will be able to buy the yarn from without too much money being spent.. My dad is generous... but for what I've seen so far.. he ain't THAT generous. lol. I still want to make it though.. HOooooly moly I do. And I still have my Ribby2 to finish.. I knit a few rounds of sleeve each day I go to work. (I can't justify working on it at home.. as I should be working on the MMGP.)

I think things will calm down a great deal once school is finished.. It's gonna be pretty difficult for the next two weeks.. but after that I get to be off for about a month I believe.. It will be a serious knitting month to be sure!

So.. I guess I've rambled on enough.. I gotta get something to eat and then get to the knittin!
